Continuing from their recent success at the 2018 ACRA National Championship, five rowers from the University of Michigan Men’s Rowing Team have been selected to represent Team USA at the 2018 World University Championships in Shanghai, China on August 10-12. Juniors Caleb Brown, Kevin Hinkle, Dan Jenkins, and Greg Miller were selected for the heavyweight team, and sophomore Ashwath Muruganand was selected as part of the lightweight team.
The World University Championships are held by the International University Sports Federation and features high level collegiate athletes from around the globe, many of whom are already accomplished and Olympic hopefuls.
Athletes were selected from a competitive pool of applicants across the United States. The team will feature 50 men and women from various colleges and be training in Ypsilanti, Michigan in preparation for US Nationals, and the World University Championships.
All five athletes are coming off a successful ACRA National Championship, having earned gold in the First and Second Varsity Eights, as well as taking home the Team Points Trophy.
“This is an amazing opportunity to represent the University and the country on the world stage” said Ashwath Muruganand. “We’re all excited at the chance to train at the next level and win in the Red, White and Blue”.
The cost of the training camp and travel is $5000 dollars per athlete. Please consider helping our athletes by making a tax-deductible donation via the World University Championships website: https://www.wucusarowing2018.com/sponsorship
